Current Research

The 2026 Hope in Motion Grant has awarded £6,600 to Dr Erick Romo Rivera for research being conducted at Leeds University.

The funding will support the early development of a lightweight, flexible wearable device for children with hemiplegia, a condition that causes weakness or paralysis on one side of the body. The aim is to create a simple and affordable way to support movement and make everyday activities easier.

This award shows how donations can help promising ideas take their first important steps towards improving lives. You can help fund our future research by heading to our donation page.

Past Research

We’ve previously funded research at Edinburgh University into novel ways of repairing brain damage that occurs at birth. The researchers investigated how to repair the insulation that surrounds nerve fibres, called myelin, which is the main target of injury in the infant brain and which is normally needed for healthy nerve communication throughout the nervous system. The aim of the research was to help develop drugs that repair the underlying brain damage.
